This was the first time Tilly and I had ever tried white water rafting, and honestly, we were both nervous and excited to give it a go. Joe, on the other hand, was buzzing — he’d already completed his white water rafting certification years ago in Canada when he was in the army.

He kept telling us stories about how much fun it was, how they’d go crashing down the rapids, and how he couldn’t stop laughing when his mates fell out of their dinghy. Meanwhile, I sat there terrified… but also so curious. We’re naturally an adventurous family, so of course, we had to give it a go and see what all the fuss was about!

🌴 Rafting Through Malaysia’s Jungle

What makes this adventure truly unforgettable is where you raft — you’re literally floating and paddling your way down a river through the Malaysian jungle, surrounded by lush greenery, palm trees, and wild nature at every turn.

There were moments where I just stopped paddling to take it all in — the sounds of the forest, birds overhead, and the sunlight glimmering through the trees. It felt like something straight out of a movie!

The entire rafting experience takes around three hours to complete, which was the perfect amount of time for us — long enough to get the adrenaline pumping and make memories, but not too long for kids or beginners.

Honestly, watching Tilly scream and giggle as we bounced down the rapids was my highlight. Joe was in stitches the entire time — I don’t think he took a breath between laughing at us both hanging on for dear life! 😂

We see days like this as part of our worldschooling journey — what most kids get to do once a year on a school trip, we try to build into our lives regularly.

We believe adventure, nature, curiosity, and exploring together helps shape confident, grounded, and resilient humans. Tilly doesn’t always thank us in the moment (haha!), but we’ve seen her grow so much — she’s overcome her fear of heights, learned to jump off rocks into rivers, and push herself that little bit more with every trip. We couldn’t be prouder!

Gopeng is located in Perak, Malaysia, not too far from Ipoh and around a 2–3 hour drive from the Cameron Highlands — making it the perfect stop for adventurous families exploring the region.

This experience is also great for beginners. The rapids are exciting without being overwhelming, and the team ensures everything is safe, fun, and family-friendly.

🦺 Safety & What to Bring

Before setting off, the guides gave us a full safety briefing, provided helmets, life jackets, and made sure everyone was confident before we hit the water. They were engaging, friendly, and had a great sense of humour — which helped calm our nerves!

✅ Good footwear (we wore trainers, but they have water shoes if needed)
